As our wonderful museum shop Bumbledust continues to grow we wanted to shine a light on some of the brilliant companies that we stock. Wherever possible we buy from small, independent businesses – we just love businesses with a story to tell and we want to share these stories with you to really help you connect to the people who make these wonderful items. Those of you who have visited our shop before will likely have seen the ‘Shop Stories’ dotted around the displays telling you about the people who make them.
Established in 1837 Abraham Moon & Sons is one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in the country located at Guiseley in Yorkshire. All production processes are completed on site. Starting with the raw wool then on to dyeing, blending, carding, spinning, warping, scouring, milling and finishing!
When you buy one of their beautiful throws or scarves you are taking home a piece of the UK’s woollen industries heritage and helping to keep it alive.
They have a fascinating history and a brilliant story. If you head over to their website you can dig right in to their story and follow their fabulous timeline on the history page: https://www.moons.co.uk/about-us/history/
