Today’s randomly chosen object is a Trowbridge Town Football Club 1994/5 fixtures booklet. The club was started in 1880 and was one of the founding members of the Bristol & District League in 1892.They finished as runners-up in the league’s first season and stayed in the Bristol league for three seasons before joining the Western League where they stayed until 1958. Trowbridge Town AFC was formed in the summer of 1998, following the demise of the Trowbridge Town (1983) Ltd.Local supporters of the club were so saddened by the loss of what was one of the top winning sides for Wiltshire, that they together and agreed to form a new club. To begin with the club had no team and no grounds on which to play but eventually they came to an agreement with the youth team to share their facilities at Woodmarsh. The Club joined the Wiltshire County League for the 1999-2000 Season, winning the County Intermediate League at the first attempt and promotion to the Premier Division of the County Senior League. The club has always had a strong link with Trowbridge Town Youth and the two clubs formally merged in June 2008. Town Youth FC has been one of the most successful youth football Clubs in the County of Wiltshire.
Within our collection we have a wide variety of objects related to the football club including : photograph of Trowbridge Town Football Club 1906-07, large football rattle 1960, football signed by the team of Trowbridge Town Football Club who won the Wilts Intermediate League 1999-2000 and 2 albums of black & white photographs relating to the life of Alec (Alous) Eisenträger (Eisentrager) – he was a German Prisoner of War, who became a footballer for Trowbridge Town Football Club, before making his name with Bristol City Football club in 1950.
