Bygone Bench and Nostalgia case

We have a new acquisition on the Upper Gallery. This bench was kindly donated to the museum by Bob Charmbury, son of ‘George’ & Nancy Charmbury. George worked in Trowbridge as a cloth designer from 1923 until he retired in 1974. We invite you to take a seat on this bench if you are happy to chat, or listen, about days gone by with other visitors. Reminisce about the smell of hops from Ushers, the squealing pigs of Bowyers, the noise of clattering looms, local characters or the buzz of ‘It’s a Knockout’ coming to town! We also have a case that was curated by one of our recent work experience students, Betty, who has chosen a range of objects from our collection designed to invoke a sense of nostalgia and start conversations.
